This new record is different from all the others. I recorded the whole thing singing and playing at the same time rather than in pieces or layers. The result is a much more intimate feel, as if I’m playing the songs in your living room, or a small venue, exactly as most of you have heard me through the years. 

It’s an up-close and personal version of every guitar strum and lyric sung. I think it’s going to be one of your favorites. Also with all respect to robots in our lives, all sounds come solely from this imperfect, earnest, grateful, hopeful human writing you right now…and his guitar and ukulele.

Songwriting has always been my favorite part of being an artist. This collection is a blast. There’s a song about living your life by fate or luck, or both. A song about falling back in love with music. A few about being good to your  mental health. A meditation on leaning into what’s happening in  this present moment, instead of running from it. There’s a new one about dying and what comes next—when I play it live, folks come up and ask if it can be their funeral song, a huge honor. 

If my music has ever moved you, I’d love for you to consider helping out. We have a goal of $7500. Earlier albums have cost up to $25,000. The cost savings came with the simple way of performing the songs and the absence of lots of instruments like bass, drums, synth, strings, winds, kazoos or accordions joining in the fun. I don’t think you will miss them. It’s also why we are only doing the fundraiser for 30 days.

I've been doing Story Workshops with folks, helping them find their inner writer and unlock their stories to be better people. Have you ever wanted to write? Have you ever taken the time to explore your stories and better understand yourself and the world? This tier includes a 4-week story-writing workshop (in the spring), and then a few 1-on-1 Zoom meetings after where we write together and chat, with weekly prompts to get you going.

$1,500 (or $150 per month) — Executive Producer — Executive Producer credit + private 30-minute preview Zoom concert with the new songs before anyone else + all previous benefits!
